WÜNSCHMANN KAUFER ARCHITECTS

founded in 2012 in Berlin by Tom Wünschmann and Achim Kaufer is a German architectural practice focusing on advanced architectural and urban design.
We provide a planning process driven by design with the aim to realize a useroriented, well-balanced spatial solution based on local conditions. Our experience in digital workflow and parametric design allows us to develop complex designs of mutual adaptations determined and informed through sustainability, value engineering and rationalization.
From an early stage on projects are set up with latest building information modelling (BIM) software with the ambition to develop intelligent building solutions regarding room layout, structure, building process and reduction of construction costs. Due to our experience in international operating offices we can rely on a network of specialists to set up a team of engineers providing structural engineering, climate engineering or MEP. Our scope is to bring best expertise together and provide an effective workflow.

Tom Wünschmann

Toms backround spans from large scale infrasture, culture and office projects to fine detailed interiors and product designs. Pivot point in the approach of each design challenge is a strong integration of a digital parametric workflow which stimulates the exploration and creation of new forms and design solutions. The focus on parametric design allows to control complex designs of mutual adaptations determined and informed through sustainability, value engineering and rationalization. This subject was also part of a teaching assingment at the chair of Digitale Architekturproduktion at TU-Berlin. From 2007 till 2012 Tom joined Zaha Hadid Architects and worked in London, Beijing and Hamburg where he gained wide experience through divers international projects. The most outstanding projects are the Soho Galaxy retail and office building in Beijing, the Bratislava housing and office tower master plan or the Beethoven Concert Hall in Bonn. Tom studied architecture at Berlin’s Technical University, the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne and at University of Applied Arts Vienna where he attended the studio of Prof. Zaha Hadid. During his studies he focused on advanced digital design. In 2007, he received his diploma.

Achim Kaufer

Achims expertise ranges from design management to architectural design and urban master planning. He has developed his experience with numerous international projects comprising e.g. hotel high-rises, energetically optimized master planning and a large scale sports resort. From 2007 to 2011 Achim Kaufer joined the international architectural office LAVA GbR where he lately worked as project architect in the field of master planning and building design. He was responsible for a science building as well as a master plan of a science campus including laboratory buildings in Saudi Arabia. Achim studied architecture and design at Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Arts and at University of Applied Arts Vienna where he attended the studio of Prof. Greg Lynn. During his studies he focused on advanced digital design. In 2007, he received his diploma researching on the skin of a building.
